Mr. G. Thomas Bland, Jr. - Chairman & CEO

Knight Guard’s Founder, Tom Bland, is an experienced “serial” entrepreneur, with forty years of business experience; including two firms he founded and managed that are still in business and  have been operating for 15 and 21 years respectively.

His career has spanned retail management, Department of Defense related Aerospace management, Health Care and Water Remediation Management. Additionally, Mr. Bland has a background in self-defense and martial arts.

Mr. Bland has a Master’s Degree in Business Administration and taught Economics for UCF and Valencia Community College as an adjunct professor from 1979 through 1999. He was inducted into the UCF College of Business Hall of Fame in 2004;  awarded the Professional Achievement Award from the College in 2010 and was Honored as One of Fifty College of Business Alumni at the University's Fiftieth Anniversary.

Mr. Bland serves on several Boards including Orlando, Inc. (Orlando’s Chamber of Commerce), Orlando World Trade Center, the UCF College of Business Dean’s Executive Board, AquaFiber Technology Corporation and TenderCare Home HealthCare.

Mr. Dave Robinson - Director

Mr. Robinson, a former Navy Seal, is the CEO of Tactical Intelligence International. Mr. Robinson, featured in videos by CNN and BCC, is an expert in tactical intelligence, surveillance and counter insurgency

Mr. Robinson's firm provides counter-terrorism and tactical training to deploying military units, conducts vulnerability assessments of commercial vessels and critical infrastructure, and performs high-threat personal security details worldwide. His firm has developed courses of instruction for numerous military units and government agencies including the US Army, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, DHS, Dept. of State and the FBI Dive Team.  The company further conducts asset protection, risk analysis, and close protection details for fortune 500 companies, high-net-worth clients and military commanders overseas.  TII is comprised of former US Special Operations and Intelligence personnel. 

Recognized as a subject matter expert in security, counter-terrorism and intelligence operations, Mr. Robinson regularly performs as a keynote speaker, and has been featured on CNN’s Anderson Cooper 360. He holds a current Top Secret / SCI security clearance.


Mr. Roy Minson - Director

Mr. Minson is an accomplished aerospace executive with more than 30  years of experience in commercial and defense business. A broad management and technical experience combined with a entrepreneur mindset has led to significant captures, execution and delivery to both domestic and international customers resulting in billions of dollars in revenue.

Roy is currently a Senior Vice President at AeroVironment, Inc. and is responsible for developing the commercial drone marketplace strategy. Prior to this assignment Roy was the General Manager of the Unmanned Aircraft Systems business segment, a $200+ million market-leading developer and supplier of advanced technology UAS and Missile solutions for Defense and International customer solutions.

Prior to joining AeroVironment, Roy spent five years at SAIC running a division focused on power & energy, biofuels and missile guidance systems.

As an Executive at The Boeing Company (20+ years) Roy led several large business segments supporting a broad range of customers and technologies. He also led major captures and execution efforts resulting in some of the largest awards in the history of Boeing. He also was responsible for leading half of Boeing Phantom Works for the defense segment.

With a strong customer focus and skilled at understanding complex problems, Roy is skilled in matching advanced technology to customer needs, creating winning solutions that uniquely solve customer problems while generating growth opportunities for his people and strong financial returns. Roy earned his BS in Industrial Technology from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, and his MBA for University of Redlands. He lives in Southern California with his wife and family.

Ms. Phyllis A. Klock - Director

Phyllis A Klock is the retired President and Chief Operating Office of Comp Benefits Corporation.  A dental and vision benefits company serving five million members in the US South and Midwest, CompBenefits grew to over $350 million in revenues by the time of its sale to Humana in 2006.

A Charter Member of the Board of Trustees of the University of Central Florida (UCF), Phyllis served the university in this capacity from 2001 to 2012 and was named as a Trustee Emerita in 2012.  In 2014 she was honored as Doctor of Commercial Sciences.  Phyllis continues to be very involved with UCF as Chair of the UCF Foundation Board, Board Member and Member of the Executive Committee of the UCF Athletics Association, Past President of the Town & Gown Council and Immediate Past Chair of the Central Florida Wesley Foundation (a campus ministry). She also serves as Board Member and Secretary of the Laity Council of Asbury United Methodist Church and as a volunteer at Hungerford Elementary School in Eatonville.

Phyllis received her Bachelor of Science degree from Bridgewater State University (Massachusetts) and pursued graduate studies at the University of Illinois and Virginia Tech.  Prior to joining CompBenefits she coordinated business graduate programs at UCF and Texas Tech University and held various positions in insurance company administration. Her professional designations include that of Fellow of the Life Management Institute (FLMI).

Dr. Jeff Martin, DMD – Director

Dr. Martin has been in private practice as an orthodontist since 1993, establishing MartinDontics as a solo practice in 1994. He is certified in Invisalign and Incognito Lingual Brace System and is also a public lecturer and a published author.

Dr. Martin received his Bachelor of Science degree from UCF in 1983. He also received a Master of Science degree in 1992 from the University of Alabama School of Dentistry where he defended his Thesis on “Quantitative Measurement of Active Ingredient Transport Through Dentin: A Comparison of Three Vital Bleaching Agents” which was original in design and some of the earliest research on bleaching agents identifying the interactions occurring at the biochemical and cellular levels and their effects on human teeth.

Dr. Martin obtained his doctorate in dentistry from the University of Alabama School of Dentistry, where he graduated in 1988 with honors, being inducted into Omicron Kappa Upsilon (OKU) the National Dental Honor Society.  Dr. Martin also completed an additional year of training as a resident in hospital dentistry, followed by a three-year specialty-training program in orthodontics at the University of Alabama School of Dentistry where he graduated in 1992.

Dr. Martin maintains professional membership with the American Dental Association, Florida Dental Association, American Association of Orthodontists, the Dental Society of Greater Orlando, Florida Association of Orthodontists and the Southern Association of Orthodontists.

Dr. Martin is an active member of his community and enjoys spending times with his wife and kids, as well as enjoying several recreational activities.


Ms. Mary Olson – Director

Mary serves as the President of the Board of the Orlando Union Rescue Mission, a faith-based homeless shelter for families. She also serves as the Beta Lambda House Corporation Treasurer at the University of Central Florida (UCF). Mary was an Orange County Public Schools Speech Pathologist, as well as an Officer for many Parent Teacher Associations. She has been a Director of AquaFiber Technologies Corporation since 2000.

She has been a Member of the Dow Jones Investment Club for more than 40 years, and has served as President and Treasurer during that time. She is very active in events and activities that take place with the UCF Tri Delta Sorority. For the past 30 years, she has been involved with Olson's Investments, which deals with private investment portfolios and real-estate transactions. Ms. Olson is a graduate of Michigan State University with a Bachelor of Science and Master's degree in Speech Pathology.

Ms. Melissa Owens - Director

Melissa Owens, a former UCF Student Athlete and graduate of their Biological Sciences program, is the Founder and CEO of Allied Search Partners. Melissa is also a board member for The Varsity Knights, a group dedicated to current and former UCF student athletes, and a board member of the Volusia County UCF Alumni Chapter.

Melissa founded Allied Search Partners in 2008, a recruitment firm specializing in laboratory and biotechnology staffing. The company helps laboratories and hospitals find qualified laboratory employees. She has built relationships with the nations leading healthcare organizations; such as Emory University Hospital, The Mayo Clinic, and cutting edge companies in the Cancer Diagnostics commerce. She builds strategic relationships with these healthcare organizations in order to streamline and assist with the process of hiring the right employee for their laboratories. She has successfully placed hundreds of new employees within her client organizations across the country.

Most recently, she and her staffing firm were featured in the healthcare addition of I4 Business Magazine as running the nations leading staffing firm for the laboratory industry and was named as the “E-Harmony of Recruitment Firms.” Over the last 2 years she has invested in the software necessary to keep up with the demand and growth of the mobile world we live in today and her company is completely mobile, virtual and paperless. Applicants are now able to search for and apply to her firm’s job openings through their Mobile Devices, utilize Skype Interviewing and go through the initial screening process via Email. ASP Employees are able to work from home and clients can conduct business with ASP from across the country seamlessly.

During the 2nd quarter of this year Melissa has expanded her recruitment firm to offer full circle recruitment. This means she is able to offer her laboratory and biotechnology clients’ permanent placement, temporary and temporary to permanent hiring options. This change came about by the changes created in the employment industry from the implementation of the Affordable Care Act.
